Orff Schulwerk gives teachers the power to design music classes that give students a creative voice. This workshop will give ideas for supporting students through the creative process, taking baby steps towards improvisation and composition with movement, rhythm, and recorder. Unlock your own creativity as a teacher to design well-rounded lessons that you love to teach! Use swing music to inspire a Savoy-Style jam circle in your classroom! Get ideas for building a DIY musical production at any scale, for any group of students. Get some wonderful take-home lesson ideas and the tools to create your own!

Colleen Vernon has been teaching general music for Pre-K-5th grade for thirteen years. She received her degrees from Ithaca College and West Chester University. She has Level III Orff Schulwerk Certification and is a certified AOSA movement instructor. She has given numerous workshops around the DC metro area, presented at AOSA conferences, and instructed Level 1 Orff Movement at Winthrop University. She served as co-president for the Greater Baltimore Orff Schulwerk Chapter. Colleen spent seven years as a professional Lindy Hop competitor and instructor for Charm City Swing in Baltimore. She currently performs on recorder with Baltimore’s Society for Early Music, teaches early childhood music classes at Glenelg Country School, and sings and dances with her two children as much as possible!
